Tell us a little bit about yourself and your journey leading to your role at Music Forward.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I grew up in Inglewood, CA and I have actually been involved with Music Forward since 2017. I initially found Music Forward in high school and became a participant in a mentorship program called UForward. I continued participating in Music Forward programs as an artist through undergrad and eventually graduated from UC San Diego in June 2021. I joined the Music Forward staff the following year as an intern and then went on to be hired full-time in the summer of 2022!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Describe what you do at Music Forward and what you are most excited about?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am an Education Coordinator at Music Forward. My role is basically a link between students, internal staff, and music industry partners throughout the various programs and opportunities that Music Forward offers. The most exciting part of my position would be connecting young artists\/professionals to opportunities and information about the music industry. As a young artist myself, I know how it feels to face the industry from the outside and feel the weight of trying to find your way in on your own.  I love that we provide the students with experiences and information that really gives them an advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n

Growing up, who or what were some of your inspirations?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve always been inspired by music and my family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you think are the secrets behind getting to where you want to be?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I believe the secret to getting what you want\/where you want are patience, diligence, and determination. Most goals aren’t achieved in one day. So it’s important to really know what you want and trust the process. It’s also important to work diligently towards your goals because they won\u2019t just happen on their own. Prepare yourself to receive the rewards you’re working for so that when they do happen whether it takes two years or two weeks you are ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What piece of advice would you give to young people looking for their first role in the music industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is always something useful to learn no matter the position.  The music industry is ever-changing so there is never too much to observe and learn about how the industry works. I would also say to remember to build your network. Even if you aren\u2019t starting in the “perfect dream job,” the quality of work you put in and the relationships you build may lead you to the opportunities you are looking for.<\/p>\n\n\n

What has been your most memorable or favorite live music experience? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My most memorable live experience so far would have to be seeing James Blake at the Hollywood Bowl in the fall of 2021. Firstly, because I am a big fan of James Blake and he is a big inspiration for my own music but also because I walked the stage at the Hollywood Bowl when I graduated from high school. So, it was very surreal to see a musical hero of mine perform on the stage where I got my diploma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does music move you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music moves me in every direction. Whether I am just listening to music in the background while I work, listening while I workout, listening to relax, or making music myself. It is a massive part of my everyday life and I couldn\u2019t live without it. I am constantly moved by music and its power to connect us all!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
